Lights out.

It was a good year but the lighthouse has run its course, it seems, so the light's finally burnt out. Thanks to all the assholes who steal music and justify it like we do on here, thanks to all the elitists who judged our tastes incessantly, thanks to the losers that posted comments and reminded us how bromo we are.

Adebisi Shank

Adebisi Shank pretty much mix math rock with fap rock (i.e. hair metal of the 80s.) so think like van halen mixed with maps and atlases and a touch of masturbatory plays.

Outkast - Aquemini

When you get new music you like, you listen to it a lot because it is pleasing to you in some way (I know, profound). Because Illmatic is what got me into hip hop, no other hip hop album has been able to bring me the sustained satisfaction that Illmatic has. Then I discovered Aquemini. It's not Illmatic but it's damn close.

The Flashbulb - Arboreal

Benn Jordan's sound has certainly evolved since Soundtrack to a Vacant Life. Though I'm hesitant to call Arboreal his magnum opus for the sole reason that I only own the two aforementioned albums, it's not a huge stretch of the imagination. Jordan combines pensive/ambient electronics with rugged and intricate beats to form a real work of art here. The instrumentation is less varied than on Soundtrack and I particularly missed the folky acoustics of tracks like "Steel for Pappa," but what Jordan loses from Soundtrack in transition to Arboreal he regains twofold through the sheer power and subtlety of his soundscapes. For sure one of the best yet of 2010.
