The Drums - 'Summertime!'

The Drums' debut record will make you wanna surf and hang out outside all day and strum the hours away with your bros and chicks on your old acoustic while drinking a Corona on the beach - if you couldn't tell by it's name, this album is an attempt to capture the glory of halcyon summer days that blend endlessly into night then repeat, if only forever. I can't believe it's fucking snowing in Newark...

Fang Island- Fang Island

band describes themselves as "everyone high-fiving each other at the same time." in quantitative terms, this means lots of guitars and lots of whoa-ohs and lots of stupidity but goddamn FUN

Whoa-oh

Brian Eno - Music for Airports

Beautiful, relaxing ambient music. This 1978 release's four tracks are slow moving, so don't expect it to blow your mind with hooks or complexity, but rather to take your breath away with the power and intrigue of the world it creates.

Nas - Illmatic

I don't have any sort of background with this type of music so I can't talk smartly about it, but I have a background in good music and this is some of that

Glassjaw

I'm gonna forgo the usual hyping one album at a time. Long Island's Glassjaw have two essentials. Plus check out that track above. That's what's coming. These guys pretty much embody what it was like to be adolescent in the northeast, and they go raaaaaaaaawr

Steve Wagner Sings the Blues

Many moons ago, in the old decrepit high school of upstate New York we went to, our friend Steve Wagner did what we wished we could do then: cover wanky indie songs. Thankfully for everyone, he put all his recordings together and sent them to a few of us, under the moniker Steve Wagner Sings the Blues. With a lo-fi air and soothing, even emotional voice, he does each artist justice...in fact, I can honestly say I think he does songs like "Absolutely Cuckoo," "Harp," "Winter's Love," and "What Will You Do When Your Suntan Fades" better than their originals.

Robin Thicke - Sex Therapy

Are you ever in the position where you got that girl from the party back to your room and you're struggling to find the right music to set the mood? Me neither, but it's good to have just in case.

The Men Who Control the Weather - We Own the Skies

It's probably the most hipster-friendly punk music I've ever heard. Then again, I haven't heard much.

Eluvium - Similes

Even if this album was crap, you would still have to get it because it's Eluvium. Fortunately it's not crap; unfortunately I don't have a link right now... EC LEMME GET DAT
