The Flashbulb - Arboreal

Benn Jordan's sound has certainly evolved since Soundtrack to a Vacant Life. Though I'm hesitant to call Arboreal his magnum opus for the sole reason that I only own the two aforementioned albums, it's not a huge stretch of the imagination. Jordan combines pensive/ambient electronics with rugged and intricate beats to form a real work of art here. The instrumentation is less varied than on Soundtrack and I particularly missed the folky acoustics of tracks like "Steel for Pappa," but what Jordan loses from Soundtrack in transition to Arboreal he regains twofold through the sheer power and subtlety of his soundscapes. For sure one of the best yet of 2010.

Acid Witch - Witchtanic Hellucinations

Death/doom band that did one too many hits, found some stoner influences and wrote the best DM keyboard parts this side of Nocturnus.

Lantlôs - Lantlôs

Awesome black metal with enough shoegaze influence to keep the whiners happy and enough blastbeats to keep the corpsepainted churchburners icy and bleak.

oh by the way this is a side project from Neige of Alcest and Amesoeurs. Some of you might know who they are.

True - Still Life

Dudes from Croatia make an awesome death metal record, throw in some crust influence, add a traditional Croatian instrument called a tambura, call it the same thing as an Opeth record. What could go wrong?

A lot I guess but I like this album so fuck you.
