Google "kenna new sacred cow genre": everywhere you turn are throngs of people befuddled that they cannot define Kenna's 2003 release into a particular genre. Many will shrug and label it alternative and call it a day; others say electronica and others yet have said new wave hip hop. It seems to me that because of the uniqueness of this album it sparks a response unique to each individual listener--trying to classify it and thus limit it is futile. Instead of struggling with how to think about the record and what category it should be pigeonholed into, it seems simpler and more fulfilling to just recognize it for what it is: an innovative, defiant work that transcends our typical notions of musical style.
